A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

Summary

In "Wing", you play as a fledgeling who fell from the nest, learning to fly as you climb back up to the sky.

Wing explores unlimited flight in a 2D environment, providing a new twist on classic platforming. While gameplay is inspired by real flight mechanics, it condenses and simplifies these mechanics to make in-game flight accessible to players of all skill levels.

This is a prototype, and I'd love feedback. Please leave your thoughts on the gameplay (and your final speed run time) in the comments!

Controls

The controls are taught (and can be reconfigured) in-game; they are also included here if you need:

Gameplay:

Move: WASD

Jump: Space

Glide: J

Dive: S + J

Pause: ESC

Menus:

Move: WASD

Confirm: Enter

Cancel: ESC

Note: This prototype currently uses the following music piece:

Spring Mvt 1 Allegro by John Harrison with the Wichita State University Chamber Players, licensed under a Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 International License. Pulled from freemusicarchive.org.

I plan to make my own arrangement when I have the time, but in the meantime, I hope this piece conveys the intent well!

Hi! I'm really liking the game so far! I would change the glide and dive control to the left mouse button, though. When gaming, NOBODY has their right hand on the keyboard unless they're typing! Mouse is always what feels natural. I ended up changing the glide to Z, but I was disappointed that I couldn't make it the left mouse button. Of course, adding controller support could help as well!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing how the game continues to progress! :)

I'm pretty sure you're in the minority here, most people prefer only keyboard controls, unless it's some 1st person shooter. But freely customizable buttons would be nice.

Thanks for the recommendation! At some point I’m hoping to add controller support (with the same rebinding options); I can look into other control methods (like mouse) too! I know it might not be common, but the reason I want rebinding is to improve accessibility for people who use uncommon control schemes.
